Successful weekend for Richard Verschoor on Red Bull Ring
the fifth round of the Formula Renault Eurocup 2.0 was hosted this weekend on the famous Red Bull Ring in Austria. Richard Verschoor (Josef Kaufman Racing) finished both races well in the championship points.
In the qualifying session friday afternoon he took 3rd in group, gave him P5 start for race 2. On saturday morning the 17 year old KNAF Talent First driver finished first in his group, gave him P2 overal. Richard had a good start at race 1, and he was able to maintain his position. ‘I was just missing a little bid of pace compare to the leader, but the gap behind me got bigger and bigger so there was no pressure. The second place of Verschoor wasn’t in danger during the race. Verschoor managed to leave the rest of the competition far behind him. With the end of the race in sight it started to rain and race control decided, because of the whole field was driving on slicks, to send the safety car on track. Soon after that the red flag was waved and the race ended prematurely. Richard Verschoor finished second – his best result this season so far.
Race 2, followed on sunday,
Verschoor lost one place at the start but was able to out brake Alex Peroni to reclaim P5! The gap between him and the drivers in front of him was to big, and Verschoor tried his best to reduce the gap but he just didn’t had enough speed to close it. He managed to create a big gap behind him and he finished on a well deserved fifth position. After the race, Colombo recieved a 10s penalty for a jump-start, what gave Verschoor P4 for race 2!
“We had a great qualifying on saturday and had a good pace all weekend. It’s great to be back on the podium and well within championship points again. These are the results I need.
The car worked great and I thank the team for the hard work. Next weekend we race on one of my favorite circuits, Spa Francorchamps and I can’t wait to start there.”
